Pre-GED Online Sampler
Description:
About the Pre-GED Online product:
Pre-GED Online supports students requiring lower-level study materials for the five GED subject areas.

Designed for students lacking the reading ability to work with GED-level materials, Pre-GED Online is an excellent choice for students in need of additional assistance. Pre-GED Online consists of 145 lessons written at a 5 - 8 reading level.

This new product can be used in teacher-assisted lab settings as well as in self-study distance learning.

In Pre-GED Online, students work through the five GED subject areas (reading, language and writing, science, social studies, and math) by taking pretests, studying with interactive materials, and assessing themselves with lesson quizzes, unit tests, and posttests.

Teachers and administrators keep track of students' progress and view/print reports as needed. Teachers can intercede when students need extra help, using prescriptions of Contemporary print materials for remediation.

Each subject area begins with a pretest to assess students' strengths and weaknesses. Students are then assigned online units and lessons designed to improve their understanding and their skills. Each lesson presents content appropriate to the 5th to 8th grade level and related to GED material. Students go step by step through the learning process in a user-friendly format with 20 to 25 screens per lesson. Students are engaged in the content by performing actions such as drag-and-drop, list sorting, matching, true/false, and multiple choice.

Each lesson ends with a six-question randomly generated quiz. If students do not master the quiz, they proceed to a reteaching lesson that presents the material in an alternative manner. They can also access prescriptions to Contemporary's pre-GED print materials for further lessons and practice. Another six-question quiz assesses their final understanding of the lesson. Finally, students are assessed for mastery of each unit and each subject area. Lessons contained in Pre-GED Online are listed at the bottom of this page.

About purchasing Pre-GED Online:

The optional media CD enables Pre-GED Online students who have limited disk capacity or slow connection speeds to view the Pre-GED media, (eg, video clips), which accompany the online lessons. Students who have high-speed connections and a reasonable amount of disk space will be able to view accompanying media online, and will not need the media CD. Note that the Pre-GED Online media CD is only useful when used with the Pre-GED Online product, and is not intended as a standalone product.

*Virtual Seats

Pre-GED Online uses virtual seats to provide student access into the program. Each seat is good for 12 months. If a student drops out of the program or completes his/her study in a short amount of time, just re-assign that seat to another student. There is no per-student charge. As long as the seat has not reached its expiration date, it can be reassigned to another student.
